Error code Additional information is available in the log file. I tried to install. Not sure what else to try. This error is caused by a permission issue, we can try to take ownership of the related folders or files and then try to install Office again. In the "Start" menu, locate "Command Prompt". Right-click and choose "Run as Administrator".

If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.

Type the following commands, then press "Enter" to execute them one by one. Please note the space before the command and its parameter. Type "regedit" without quotation marks and click OK. Please check if "Administrators" is listed in the "Group and User" name list. If not, please click the "Add" button and type "Administrators" in the open window and click "OK" to add this group. Highlight the current user account in the list and mark the check box before "Replace owner on subcontainers and objects".

Click OK to save changes and wait for Windows XP to transfer the ownership of all the objects on the partition. Note: if there is the warning information "Error: The Registry Editor could not set security in the key currently selected, or some of its subkeys", it is normal.

Mark P. In reply to T1nr1bs's post on October 24, Yes it should work in Win7. OK - I;ve changed the permissions on both the registry and the Windows folder as explained. The issue is still the same. Have you booted between install attempts? Hi - I did reboot but it made no difference. I have, however, resolved the issue and the fix is most odd. I was doing the installation over the company's wireless network all the MSI installations I tried were via wireless.

I just happened to connect the laptop to the network with a cable and try again and it all worked.
